Article I. - Name, Purpose, and General Statements
- The name of the club is the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), International Council.
- International Council is established to enhance the university campus life experience by promoting cultural and global awareness.
- International Council provides equal access and opportunity to persons of every race and ethnic heritage, sex, religion and creed and to support the international activities of the faculty, students and staff at UNLV. Club members are committed to heightening personal and campus awareness of, appreciation of, and respect for cultural diversity. Club members encourage world citizens to share with one another the wealth of their cultural heritage and experience. In addition, the club plans and implements cultural retreats, seminars, educational and recreational trips.
- International Council is a non-profit organization.
- International Council has a close relationship with the Office of International Students and Scholars and is part of the office of Student Diversity Programs and Services.
Article II. - Officers
- International Council operates using shared leadership roles: There is no hierarchy in the Council, each member has different responsibilities to make International Council successful.
- Requirements for officers will be:
- Willingness to serve as an officer
- Ability to attend meetings with regularity
- Ability to coordinate efforts with others members and officers
- All positions are permanent for each semester.
- Officers’ structure and designation are a leadership role, not hierarchical, thus contribution at all levels of participation is expected by all.
- Retention of a position is correlated to fulfillment of duties assigned to each officer.
Article III. - Meetings
- Meeting facilitator meets before events with advisor.
- Secretary from previous meeting facilitates next meeting. New secretary is chosen for each meeting.
- Officers’ meetings are held biweekly.
- All members can attend the officers’ meeting, however no formal “members’ meeting” will be held due to frequency of events.
Article IV. - Committees
1. Council members will form committees as needed. The following committees, and others, may be formed:
Events
Travel
Publicity/Marketing
Fund Raising
Community outreach
2. Committees report to biweekly officers’ meeting and to advisor
Article V. - Financial Matters
1. Officers do not receive pay. They may be reimbursed for expenses incurred (by prior arrangement) on behalf of the Council, as instructed by advisor
2. Members are not required to pay fees to join the council
3. All accounts and budget information are to be retained by the advisor and can be shared at the advisors’ discretion
4. Funding for the Council are allocated UNLV Office of Student Diversity Programming and Services, amount will vary at the Office’s discretion
5. Fundraisers may be considered to enhance budget, yet not required to maintain one.
Article VI. - Amendments
- Amendments may be proposed by the membership and voted on by officers’ and advisor.
- Members’ input may be required for matter pertaining to members’ operations.
